– my Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Venezuelan Amazon

I am in Buenos Aires, Argentina, this week, serving and working alongside missionary, Jonathan Hanegan (pictured on right in back seat). Jonathan and I first worked together in Venezuela and, actually, my last six months in Caracas were his first six months working with the same congregation I did (East Caracas Church of Christ).
In summer of 2006, one of Jonathan’s first missionary experiences was a mission trip that the East Caracas congregation conducted deep into the Amazon. “El águila” (eagle), the Jeep Grand Cherokee I owned in Venezuela, and one other vehicle helped transport the group of us on a 20-hour one-way trip to conduct evangelistic campaigns in three indigenous communities in that Amazon region.

The Jeep was packed full of the items we would need for food, children’s classes, and anything else we could squeeze in (as you can see from the pictures).
On this Throwback Thursday, I share these pictures in order to contrast the work we are doing this week in the concrete jungle of Buenos Aires, where Jonathan lives, and one of the first works in which he and I served – the Amazon jungle.
Today is my parents’ 38th anniversary. I may not be able to verbally wish them a Happy Anniversary today, but please join me in celebrating their years of faithfulness to each other and to God.
Happy Anniversary, David & Jocelynn Goff!
