Today, let's throw back to the days before GPS. How many of you feel lost at the mere mention of those days? You can now rent cars with GPS installed, most smart phones have access to GPS, and this is not just a phenomenon in the United States. The maps may not be as verified, but GPS is known and widely-used.
In my travels, I have been grateful for my own internal GPS, a good sense of direction. It has gotten me out of many a tough spot and has let me back to where I needed to go on more than one occasion.
I was recently reflecting on God and His Word as our guide and the Holy Spirit as our internal GPS, if you will. How often do we look at a clearly defined map that tells us how to get from point A to point B and totally ignore it in preference for our own route? How many times do I see God's clear instructions for my life and set it aside to follow my own desires and control?
"Commit to The Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." (Proverbs 16:3)
I think "one step at a time" has been my motto and my mantra for the past year or so. Each night, as I go to write in my prayer journal and reflect on my day, I seem to always come back to that thought. It is my reminder to not worry and recall that each day has enough trouble of its own. It is my permission to not beat myself up about things that didn't get accomplished today that I wish would have. It is a glimpse of grace and the abiding hope that I am not alone in taking these steps either.
So, on this Wake-up Wednesday, may you be reminded to take "one step at a time," to take a deep breath, and rest in God's promises.
