Love is a many splendored thing; love lifts us up where we belong; all you need is love… It is Valentine’s Day and I am reminded of the medley of love songs that were sung by Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge (not that I can recommend the movie, but some of the music was awesome).
Everyone seeks to find the best expression of love, especially on a day like today. Whether in a song, a poem, a card, a box of chocolates, or flowers, we long to demonstrate the love we have in our heart for another person.
Today, as the ultimate expression of love, I leave you with John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever should believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Many Facebook users, over the past week or so, have clicked on the link to have Facebook create a recap video of pictures and moments that have been shared via social media. I was hesitant to have Facebook create my video, knowing that not all of the events I shared were of happy moments. I didn’t want to have a photo remind me of the pain as well as the joy. I didn’t want those moments to taint what could otherwise be a compilation of special memories that bring a smile.
Curiosity won out and I clicked to have my personal “look back” video made. One unwanted picture slipped through and marred what otherwise might’ve been a great video. I actually don’t remember any other part of the content. I allowed that one picture to define my “look back” and did not share the video so that others would not be reminded of that defining moment either.
On this Throwback Thursday, my challenge to you and to myself is this: Are you allowing a painful moment in the past to define your future? Or are you simply wanting to leave it in the past and not bring it with you into the future?
